Reminder – this (55/200) means 55th most birds in the world with 200 birds in the country. I do this because I care.
Group G – group of “gonna get smashed in the knockouts”
Belgium 0 (147/264) v. Iran 0 (73/473)
Like I said, I am over Belgium. They are the worst best team I have ever seen (Germany since their 2014 world cup win is a very close second).
New Zealand 1 (162/230) v. Egypt 3 (91/377)
It took a awhile for the Pharaohs to get into gear, but they got there, they took hold of the game, and then never looked back. They are not very inspiring however, and I would not worry about them too much. They do now take a commanding lead of the group as they are the only team that has won a game.
Group H – Wooh Cape Verde and Yikes Uruguay
Spain 4 (90/379) v. Saudi Arabia 0 (88/392)
Spain is back on track. And everyone else in this group stinks?
Uruguay 2 (84/408) v. Cabo Verde 2 (199/87)
Is Cabo Verde good? After tying with Spain and then this, You can’t say no at this point. They took the lead with an amazing free kick goal (the two man wall did the worst job ever by letting it go between them). If it werent for mental lapses from the Verdes at the end of the first half from which they let up 2 goals, they should have won this game. They were the better team, they had better chances, they were harder working. Uruguay woke up for a little at the end of the second half, similar to the end of the first half, but then the Cape responded with a surge of their own. This was not a fluke, if anything the Cabos were unlucky to not get the win. Uruguay on the other hand, they look suspect.
Tomorrow’s Games – Can Messi, Mbappe, and Haaling do what they did in round 1?
Group I – The Group of Death (Iraq looks like an actually good team)
5 pm – France v. Iraq – Iraq needs a win to stay alive, France win=into knockout
8 pm – Norway v. Senegal – Senegal needs a win to stay alive, Norway win=into knockout
Group J
1 pm – Argentina v. Austria – winner to knockout, likely as group leader
11 pm – Jordan v. Algeria – need a win to stay alive
Boycott Fox Part 33
1) File this under “how the hell can’t we get this right” – We cannot figure out how to make and keep good soccer fields/any fields. Not only that, but what seems to be our worst field is the one that will have the most important games and the finals (New York/New Jersey aka Met Life). Hopefully, they do something to make it better, but the probably won’t.
2) Curtesy of my elder and the Guardian, just an absolute roast of Lalito
“Lalas enjoyed a solid playing career, but he’s obviously not in the same league as Henry, widely considered the greatest footballer in Premier League history. This vast gulf in on-field pedigree has become more awkward as the tournament has progressed, with Lalas retreating into a meek silence whenever Henry reveals his depth of footballing experience. In a conversation where his co-panelist is casually reminiscing about his days playing alongside Messi or exchanging shirts with Ronaldo Nazário at the World Cup, what exactly is Lalas going to talk about – coming on as a second-half substitute for Earnie Stewart in a friendly against Scotland in 1998? Helping the Kansas City Wizards finish last in the 1999 MLS Western Conference? Did Lalas enjoy an elite playing career? No. But does he do the background reading that could compensate for his relative lack of standing in a conversation with titans like Henry and Zlatan? Also no. But is he charming or funny or charismatic or otherwise magnetic on screen? Eh, no.” – got’em, sooo burned.
