Today’s Game
Argentina 3 (Rufous Hornero) v. Egypt 2 (Steppe Eagle)
Woowie Woowie. That was something. Possibly the game of the tournament so far. Egypt had slain the champion. It was all done. They were up 2-0 after 75 minutes. They should have been up 3-0. Argentina could not break down the Egyptian defense. Messi had missed another PK! Argentina looked slow, old, and tired. Then, in the 78th minute, Argentina got their first goal. 5 minutes later (83rd minute) Argentina (Messi) got its second goal and all of a sudden it was tied 2-2. Alright then, we were going to go into extra time. Egypt could still figure it out. But then, at 90+2, Argentina found a miracle 3rd goal. Just like that, Argentina won. Egypt lost.
For Egypt, this is what true pain looks like. They did everything right, until they did everything wrong. Their greatest player (Salah) is forced to leave this tournament with something much less than the team had hoped for.
For Argentina, this is what a champion looks like. The entire second half was Argentinas. Even when they went down 2-0, they just kept attacking and believing. It is easier to do that when you have Messi. Still, it takes something special to complete such a comeback, in such a game, in such a short amount of time. WOW.

Swiss 0-4 (cow) v. Colombia 0-3 (Andean Condor)
The Swiss outlast the Colombians. This was an evenly fought game throughout. Neither team seemed to really have an edge on the other. Congrats Swiss.

We are now done with the Round of 16. We also get a break from soccer for one day. Plus, when we come back on Thursday, there is only one game per day.
