Into the Round of 16. The results were what I told you they would be, but the way each got there was not how I envisioned it.
Today’s Game
Canada 0 (Beaver) v. Morocco 3 (Barbary Lion)
Neigh Neigh, but what a weird game. Morocco obviously won, but they looked tired/uninterested. Canada had the better chances in the first half and Morocco was fouling the crap out of Canada. There were 6 yellow cards in the first half, and 4 of them went to Morocco. The second half was still strange, but less so. In the second half, Morocco honed in on its counter. Which worked, but strange because they should have just dominated the game with the ball. Also strange, the score. 3-0 is not what the game felt like. Morocco was not that dominant.
For Canada, none of this really matters. They lost, they are out. Sucks for them that they lost on July 4th. Also, Jesse Marsch is a loser.
It is one thing to say they were the better team (which is arguable), but to to say he rather be the Canadians instead of the Moroccans, that is crazy. Canada lost. When you are in a knockout game, you want to win. Morocco won.
Paraguay 0 (pampas fox) v. France 1 (Rooster)
Turns out, despite the fact Paraguay has four Gustavos on the team, I HATE PARAGUAY. They did not even try to play soccer today. All they wanted to do was fight, try and get France to fight (particularly Mbappe), and be big cheating babies. France had to work to not be worse, and it did not help that they had a terrible ref in the game. It is truly baffling that France got 3 yellows, and Paraguay got ZERO. Paraguay elbowed the French, they kicked the French, they yelled at the ref, they yelled at the French, they pushed the French, and they even tried to scuff the penalty spot before Mapped scored the pk.
Each one of those things, which they did multiple times, is worth of a yellow, and some could have been reds. Paraguay should have had five yellow cards. So, the fact that they had ZERO is INSANE.
A focal point for Paraguay was Mbappe. I don’t know that I have ever seen one played targeted in the way Mbappe was targeted by Paraguay. He scored the one goal and is now tied with Messi for golden boot and is one behind in all time world cup goals.
Tomorrow’s Games
4 pm – Brazil v Norway – Brazil is overall the much more talented team. They are the better team. They should win. But, Norway is good, and Haaland is great! They will have opportunities to score, and their efficiency could be what wins the game. Brazil should have more chances, but they may not have as good of chances. This will be a good game.
8 pm – Mexico v. England – This will be a great game. Mexico at the Azteca in the World Cup is special. They have looked better then I can every remember them looking. But, England do well when they backed in a corner and have a chip on their shoulder. The English would love to shut the Azteca up, and I think they will thrive as the villains. This will be very fun to watch.
