World Cup 2026 – Day 22 (Round of 32)

Today’s Games
Spain 3 (248) v. Austria 0 (286)
Spain absolutely dominated. I am talking France levels of domination.

Thanks for coming out Austria, time for you to go back to singing

Spain is not getting the same level of respect as France because France has so many name brand players and have been so good for the last 8 years. Also Spain started off this world cup with the 0-0 tie with Cabo Verde (turns out that may have been not that crazy). But Spain is good, really good. They also have a favorable path forward. Watch out for them.

Portugal 2 (294) v. Croatia 1 (177)
The greatest trick the devil played was making people think it doesn’t exist. FIFA, Fox, VAR, Belgium, Portugal. The devil is a sly and terrible being. Croatia scored with no time left, with everything done, and then VAR strikes again. VAR took the goal away because they said that a Croatian player touched the ball (that thus made the other Croatian player offside). The problem is this. The CROATIAN PLAYER DID NOT TOUCH THE BALL. Even if he did, the video evidence is not clear and convincing and thus the goal SHOULD NOT BE OVERTURNED.

If the guy in blue touched the ball than I’m 6ft. At best, truly the only thing that could be true, is that some hairs touched the ball. That is not clear and convincing.

FIFA says that the microchip in the ball says their was touch. That is insane. Dont trust your government kids.

At this point, we should go back to no replays on anything. It is so much easier to accept a missed call on the field because the ref did not see something than to go to VAR, slow things down to frozen, take a thousand years to make a decision, and then make the wrong decisions. Sports are supposed to be for fun. It shouldn’t matter. But now, we have to invest more money into sports than our basic needs and dissect every moment into Bolivia. I hate it all.

As for the rest of the game, it lived up to and out did its standing as the marquee game of the day. Portugal dominated the first half, and Croatia was lucky to get out without having given up a goal. Croatia, however, showed their class, resilience, and maturity by coming out strong in the second and getting the first goal. They stayed strong throughout the second half and by far had the better of the chances. Then Penaldo showed up and cherry picked his first goal in a knockout game. (Honestly, it is pretty embarrassing that it took him 6 world cups to score in the knockouts, and then to score that goal with a pk. Messi misses pks on purpose because he would never stoop that low). Diego Costa (Portugal Keeper) was so much better than anyone else for Portugal. They didn’t go down by 2-3-4-5 goals only because of him. Is it a coincidence that Penaldo gets subbed and 10 mins later Portugal score? Not only do they score, but the new forward scores. Hmmm. Interesting

Portugal are about to get spanked by Spain.

Swiss 2 (590) v Algeria 0 (52)
Switzerland won.

Tomorrow’s Games – this is the last day of Round of 32, we get no breaks because Sunday goes straight into round of 16 games. Just give us a day off. please.
2 pm – Australia v. Egypt – on paper, Egypt is the better team. But, Australia have shown how dangerous their counterattack is and how much they can defend. I picked Australia and I stand by that.
6 pm – Argentina v. Cabo Verde – Messi, nuff said.
9:30pm – Colombia v. Ghana – the game of the day, both teams are strong, both teams attack. Colombia has more experience, but youth can make you unafraid. This will be fun.

Some more on yesterday’s USA (Balogun) red card. (Which in no world i have ever existed should have been a red card.)
